Formel 1: Ralf Schumacher and RTL Expert’s Feud Escalates!
The feud between Sky commentator Ralf Schumacher (48) and RTL expert Günther Steiner (59) has reached a boiling point. This has implications for Formula 1 broadcasts on TV! What happened? Günther Steiner is famously not a big fan of Mick Schumacher (25). The South Tyrolean was the team boss of Schumi’s son in his first (and only) two years in Formula 1 (2021 and 2022). Steiner did not hold back on criticizing Mick – and also ensured that his contract was not renewed. Steiner was Mick Schumacher’s team boss when he raced in Formula 1 in 2021 and 2022. A few days ago, Steiner said in his podcast „Vankah Hours“ that he would currently not advise Alpine to sign Mick – as there are still many stronger drivers that the team could attract. BECAUSE: Mick Schumacher actually has a chance to get a seat at Alpine for the next season. But for Steiner, there are better drivers on the market. Mick Schumacher hopes for a return to Formula 1. This was too much for Ralf Schumacher, who can no longer stand the ongoing criticism of his nephew. In an Instagram video, he accused Steiner of actively working to prevent Mick from getting a seat at Alpine: „I don’t understand these pointless jabs and comments. I don’t know if he is the best person to judge that. Slowly, I feel like he wants to prevent the comeback at Alpine.“ Ralf then adds, „The team (Haas, Ed. note) also does well without him. What if Mick performs well in a possible Formula 1 comeback – then Steiner would not look good. I’m starting to believe that’s the reason.“
Boom! Ralf Schumacher refuses to appear on camera with Steiner anymore. The feud between the two now also has consequences for the RTL broadcasts. RTL secured seven races before the season. Not exclusively, but as part of a collaboration with Sky. This deal also includes both TV teams (Sky and RTL) sometimes standing together in the pit lane in front of the cameras – meaning Schumacher and Steiner too. But the former Formula 1 driver is no longer interested in that. Ralf Schumacher confirmed to BILD that he will not appear on camera with Steiner in the future.
However, this decision does not have consequences for the race on Sunday (8 pm). The Canadian Grand Prix will be broadcast exclusively on Sky – with Ralf Schumacher as a commentator. The next race on RTL is the Hungarian Grand Prix (July 21).
