Imagine waking up in a meticulously crafted world where every fingerprint is visible up close, every molded bend and twist of clay on the ground you walk on is apparent…and where monsters are trying to devour you.
Explore a world of light and darkness
In The Midnight Walk, you awaken as „The Burnt One,“ a mysterious being that has emerged from a muddy grave to fulfill its destiny. This destiny leads it to Potboy – a small sleeping lantern creature that you bring back to life. Together, you must embark on the Midnight Walk – a perilous, nightmarish highway – and along the way, survive five strange tales about fire; its life-giving warmth as well as its inherent danger. You will outsmart creepy enemies, meet a fantastic group of companions, and marvel at our handmade world. That’s right: every object in the game was first sculpted from clay before being scanned in 3D and animated in a stop-motion style!
But how did Moonhood come up with the idea to create such a peculiar adventure?
The origins of The Midnight Walk
Not long ago, Klaus Lyngeled and I found ourselves in a creative rut after co-directing our last project, Lost in Random. How do you follow up such an expansive game? That was the question we pondered as we searched for the spark that would reignite our creativity. While I returned to drawing comics, Klaus returned to working with clay, creating sculptures and scanning them in 3D.
One day, he brought a small clay creature to me: a childlike humanoid with a flame emanating from its head. We immediately began discussing a game where you must protect this little creature on its journey through a dark fairy-tale world full of fire-breathing monsters that want to consume it and its flame. And when this little flame creature came to life in our first playable demo, the spark ignited within Klaus and me as well. The development of The Midnight Walk had begun – and we haven’t looked back since.

We have developed games together for many years, but never have we been able to stay true to our original vision – and ourselves – as we have with this game. This game is evolving into something truly beautiful, and we can’t wait to place this piece of terrifying poetry into your hands.
