Football: Public Screening at Günter Grass House

The Football European Championship 2024 is approaching, and for all football fans, the Günter Grass House is planning a special experience. On June 14, 19, and 23, 2024, the three games of the German national team in the group stage can be watched outdoors on a large LED screen during the Public Screening in the atmospheric setting of the museum garden. What makes this event unique is that during the halftime breaks, poets from the participating countries will recite specially developed texts for this occasion in a „Poetry Tandem“: On June 14, Scottish Catherine Wilson Garry and German Nils Mohl, on June 19, Hungarian Henrik Szántó and German Anna Teufel, and on June 23, Swiss Julia Rüegger and German John Sauter will be guests. The motto of the event is „United by Football. United in the heart of Europe,“ emphasizing collaboration over competition.

Attendance at all three events is free. Snacks and drinks can be purchased and consumed on-site. Due to limited seating, it is recommended to arrive early.

The events are part of the project „Halbzeiten,“ which contributes to the official art and culture program of UEFA EURO 2024 and is organized by the Günter Grass House, the Burg Hülshoff Center for Literature, and the Brechtfestival Augsburg. The goal is to bring together football and poetry. With the project „Halbzeiten,“ the three literary institutions aim to harness the power of football for communication across all borders. The events at the Günter Grass House are supported by the Sparkasse Lübeck.

For those who can’t contain their excitement in their seats, there is also an opportunity to dance at the current exhibition „Grass Tanzbar“ on June 14 and 23, 2024. Before the Public Screenings, a Milonga will take place in the garden of the Günter Grass House from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, on June 23, 2024, complemented by a trial lesson for Tango Argentino from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Participation in these dance events is also free. The event will take place in the museum garden.
