Ausschluss von Joost Klein: Niederländer reichen Protest ein

The Dutch public broadcaster (NPO) has officially filed a complaint with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) following the disqualification of Dutch contestant Joost Klein from the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). This action was taken just before the start of the final on Saturday evening, on behalf of the participating Dutch TV channel Avrotrots, as reported by the Dutch news agency ANP.

„We were informed today by the EBU’s decision to disqualify the Dutch delegation for today’s ESC show in Malmö. On behalf of NPO and Avrotrots, we hereby officially announce that we do not agree with this decision and strongly object,“ the broadcaster wrote to the organizer EBU. The NPO is expected to submit further arguments for the complaint at a later time.

The EBU excluded the Dutch candidate on Saturday following an incident on Thursday, which the police are investigating, from the Song Contest. According to Avrotrots, the incident is related to unwanted filming by Joost. Due to these recordings, Joost allegedly made a threatening movement towards the camera without touching the camerawoman. The incident was reported to the authorities.

Joost Klein has not publicly commented on the situation yet. However, during the Song Contest, he shared a video on his Instagram account of dogs running around wildly.

In other news, Israeli soldiers reportedly rescued four hostages from the Gaza Strip on Saturday. The individuals, who were abducted from Israel, were freed in two operations in the Nuseirat refugee district.
