Barclays Appoints Christian Wagner from Morgan Stanley as Head of Investment Banking for DACH Region
In a strategic move, Barclays has welcomed seasoned investment banker Christian Wagner to lead the Investment Banking division in the DACH region. Wagner, who joins Barclays from US competitor Morgan Stanley, will take on the role of Head of Investment Banking for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the British bank.
Working closely with Country CEO Ingrid Hengster and the Investment Banking team, Wagner will be based in the bank’s Frankfurt office. He will report to Duncan Goelst, Head of Investment Banking in Continental Europe, and Germany’s CEO Hengster.
Having been with Morgan Stanley since 2019 as Managing Director for financial investors in the German-speaking region, Wagner brings a wealth of experience to his new position. At Nomura Bank, Wagner played a key role in establishing the Private Equity business from 2013 onwards.
At Barclays, Wagner is expected to drive the bank’s growth initiatives in the European market. Duncan Goelst emphasized the importance of the German market for Barclays, stating, „We have steadily expanded our business in Germany in recent years. Our goals remain ambitious as we aim to further accelerate our growth in the region,“ echoed by Germany’s CEO Hengster.
Wagner is set to assume his new role at Barclays in the second half of the year, aligning with the bank’s vision for expansion and success in the region. This strategic appointment underscores Barclays‘ commitment to strengthening its position in the competitive financial landscape.
