Former Schalke player Suat Serdar is still struggling to find his footing at Hellas Verona in Italy. Although he was able to play again, it was not a successful comeback for him.
This season was supposed to be a fresh start for Suat Serdar after facing challenges in Germany, where he found success only with 1. FSV Mainz 05. He made the move from Hertha BSC to Hellas Verona in Italy in the summer of 2023. Initially, he had some difficulties but by January 2024, he had settled in and secured a spot in the team. Since January 13th, he only missed two league games due to injury and suspension.
Hellas Verona decided to exercise their option to purchase Suat Serdar in the summer of 2024, paying around 4.5 million euros to Hertha BSC. However, things have not been going smoothly for him this season.
On the first matchday against SSC Napoli, Serdar’s bad luck began. He had to leave the game due to an injury after 21 minutes, watching his team’s 3-0 victory from the sidelines. A hamstring injury sidelined the 27-year-old for the next six games.
He made his comeback on Monday evening, October 21st, against AC Monza, coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute. However, his return was not as he had hoped, as Hellas Verona suffered a 0-3 defeat, currently placing them 13th in Serie A. Now, it is up to Serdar to fight his way back into the team.
Suat Serdar rose to prominence in Germany during his time at 1. FSV Mainz 05, where he was developed and turned into a professional player. Schalke 04 then acquired his services for eleven million euros in the summer of 2018. However, his career took a downward turn soon after.
After three difficult seasons with FC Schalke 04 and then Hertha BSC, Serdar decided to leave German professional football last summer. He played a total of 178 games (19 goals, six assists) in the Bundesliga.
Hertha loaned the midfielder to Italy, where he played for Hellas Verona last season before making the move permanent. In terms of performance, his new club is facing similar challenges to his previous ones, as they are also battling against relegation in Serie A.
