Exciting News for Western Fans: 90s Classic Released Uncut for the First Time on DVD & Blu-ray

Get ready for some action-packed Wild West adventure with an iconic action star in full length and high definition in „The Shooter – The Sniper“. The Western starring Michael Dudikoff is finally coming to home entertainment in a proper format.

In recent weeks and months, Western fans have been treated to some great news for their home entertainment collection. Several classic Western adventures have been announced or released, including 4K versions of „Once Upon a Time in the West“ and „The Lullaby of Death“, uncut debuts of „They Call Him Cemetary“ (featuring Bud Spencer and James Coburn) and „Oklahoma John“, as well as the 1950s Western „The First Bullet Hits“, which is making its home entertainment debut over 65 years after its original theatrical release. And the good news continues: on June 28, 2024, „The Shooter – The Sniper“ will be released for the first time uncut on DVD and Blu-ray. After the action-packed film was released uncut on VHS, only a heavily edited FSK-16 DVD was available in the country. However, now the 1997 Western will finally be available in its full-length glory (with an 18 rating) and newly remastered in HD.

If you missed the uncut TV broadcasts (such as on Tele 5) until now, you can soon catch up on the Dudikoff hit on disc. The film is currently not available for streaming, neither through subscription nor video-on-demand services. „The Shooter“: A Classic 90s Western with Star Power The age rating already suggests that no compromises were made here. Dudikoff fans won’t be able to resist „The Shooter“ – and are sure to enjoy the film. However, it should be noted that the film by Fred Olen Ray may not quite reach the level of the cult classics mentioned earlier. The filmmaker, who may be known to some wrestling fans as Fabulous Freddie Valentine, once lent Quentin Tarantino a 16mm camera so that the „Pulp Fiction“ director could shoot his first film „My Best Friend’s Birthday“. Unlike Tarantino, Ray later made a name for himself as a direct-to-video director – from risque horror films like „Bikini Frankenstein“ and Christmas romances like „A Royal Christmas Holiday“ to the Dudikoff Western with an 18 rating. In „The Shooter“, he tells the story of the titular sniper Michael Atherton (Michael Dudikoff), who takes on the infamous outlaw Jerry Krants (William Smith), who has long terrorized the town. But the duel intensifies when the traveler Kyle Tapert (Randy Travis) also gets involved in the matter…
