Saarbrücken: Body Found in Car Recovered from Saar River

Saarbrücken – A shocking discovery was made in the Saar River in Saarbrücken. Employees of the Water and Navigation Office found a car in the water during surveys, then made a gruesome discovery. A body was found in the car. It could be related to a missing person case known to the police. The vehicle was recovered in the evening with the help of a crane set up on the A 620 highway. It was a red Renault Twingo with license plates from the Passau area in Bavaria. Interestingly, the police had previously publicly searched for a vehicle just like this one! They were looking for a missing 68-year-old. Although the man had been living in Hauzenberg, Bavaria for years, he originally came from Püttlingen and had contacts in the Saarland until last year. He was reported missing in mid-October last year. He was last seen in Saarbrücken – after that, he disappeared without a trace. During survey work, the car sought in connection with a missing person case was found.

The police had already searched the Saar in the area in October, without finding the car. Divers from the Technical Operations Unit of the Riot Police were moving from the East Port to the lock in Burbach at the time. The car was lifted from the water with a crane. The origin of the found car has been clarified. However, due to the long period it was submerged, the body in the Twingo is difficult to identify. Therefore, it is not conclusively confirmed at this time that it is the missing man from Bavaria. The autopsy revealed that the man drowned. According to the Saarbrücker Zeitung, there is no evidence of foul play.

The car was covered with protective tarps and taken to the premises of a towing company in Saarbrücken. Further investigations are expected to be carried out there, according to the police. The closest relatives of the missing man have already been informed about the discovery of the car.
