Luxury motorhomes that can accommodate a car. Mini trailers for adventurous vacations. A variety of camping equipment and more. This year at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, almost 780 exhibitors are showcasing the latest trends for vacationing on wheels for ten days.
According to the organizers, the world’s largest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans has grown even bigger this year. An additional 2,000 square meters of exhibition space have been added, bringing the total to around 250,000 square meters spread across 16 halls plus outdoor areas.
Caravans are becoming lighter and more compact
On the preview day, which is exclusively for journalists, invited guests, and visitors seeking an exclusive look at the latest innovations, the Caravan opens its doors. Limited tickets were available for a higher price than on regular days. The detailed showcase of new products will take place on Friday, but trends are already emerging. For example, trailers are becoming increasingly lighter and more compact, making them easier to tow with electric vehicles.
Autonomous camping without luxury is trending
With rising inflation, many people are more cautious with their spending. Manufacturers are responding by offering slimmer and more affordable motorhomes. According to the fair, there are some models priced below 60,000 euros, although affordability is still a consideration. Another trend is the growing popularity of campsites away from major tourist spots in natural settings. These sites often do not have electricity or water connections, so the Caravan is featuring a lot of accessories for autonomous camping trips, such as batteries and solar panels.
The Caravan industry is pleased with its business
The Caravan Industry Association (CIVD) is satisfied with the state of the industry. After a record year in the 2020 pandemic, interest initially waned but remained at a high level. This year, there has been an increase of nearly ten percent in the registration of motorhomes in Germany compared to the same period last year, while there is a slight decrease in registrations for trailers.
After the preview day, the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf will open its doors to the general public on Saturday and continue until the following Sunday (8.9.). Last year, more than 250,000 visitors attended the event.
