A camper van accident on Saturday night on the A94 near Vaterstetten caused major traffic chaos for almost three hours, according to the police. The reason for the accident on the highway towards Passau around 6:20 pm is still unknown. What is certain, according to the police, is that a 68-year-old woman from Prien am Chiemsee initially veered off the road to the right between the Parsdorf and Markt Schwaben exits, where there is a milling edge due to the construction site there. As a result, she lost control of her camper van, first hitting the right guardrail and then the left concrete barrier. This caused the barrier to shift into the oncoming lane. Therefore, the Parsdorf fire department also had to close the structurally separate left lane of the highway towards Munich. Due to an additional breakdown vehicle in front of the accident site and the closed lane towards Munich, there were significant traffic disruptions in both directions. The full closure lasted until 9 p.m. The woman was uninjured in the accident.
Near the accident site, at the junction from the A99 to the A94 towards Passau, a second serious accident occurred a few hours later. Around 2:15 am, according to the police, a 67-year-old motorcyclist from the Rosenheim district veered onto the shoulder, hit a traffic sign, and then fell. Prior to this, the man had been noticed by an uninvolved witness due to his uncertain driving. Several first responders, including some with medical knowledge, immediately attended to the motorcyclist, ensuring prompt initial care. The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The reason for the man’s uncertain driving was initially unclear and is the subject of the investigation, according to the police.
The volunteer fire departments of Kirchheim and Heimstetten arrived with multiple vehicles and personnel to secure the accident site and ensure a safe and smooth landing for the helicopter. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of safe driving and being prepared for emergencies on the road. It is crucial for all road users to stay alert, follow traffic rules, and be mindful of their surroundings to prevent accidents and ensure safety for themselves and others. Remember to drive cautiously, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and be prepared to react to unexpected situations on the road. Your safety and the safety of others depend on your responsible and attentive behavior while driving. Let’s work together to create a safer environment on the roads for everyone.
