Netflix now offers a masterful horror hit to watch. Over 104 minutes, the Oscar film manages to be as shocking as it is hilarious. Jordan Peele is a phenomenon. The experienced US comedian found a second foothold as a horror director just a few years ago and is already considered a master today. He owes this reputation not least to his fantastic debut, which is now available on Netflix: Get Out is the best horror film of the 2010s for us, blending social satire, quirky twists, and intense horror. Get Out revolves around the black photographer Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), who visits his white girlfriend Rose’s (Allison Williams) wealthy parents in the countryside. Repulsed by the racist undertones of the couple, he turns to the black acquaintances of the rural community. And discovers a gruesome secret. The twist of Peele’s directorial debut shall not be revealed here. Just this much: it is as scary as it is satirical, as effective as it is double-edged, an individual horror film as well as a political punch in the gut. Some moments are so exaggerated that viewers will have tears of laughter. And five seconds later, they will clutch the armrest in fear. Get Out was nominated for a total of four Oscars at the 2018 Oscars, with Peele eventually winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Since then, he has apparently taken a liking to the horror genre: he also sat in the director’s chair for Us and Nope. In the streaming area, there have already been some strong films to discover this year.
