In Central Germany, some regions experienced the hottest day of the year on Tuesday. According to the MDR Weather Studio, the highest temperature was measured in Vachdorf, Thuringia, where the thermometer reached nearly 36 degrees.

In Saxony-Anhalt, the hottest temperature was 34.8 degrees in Zeitz, while Saxony recorded 34.7 degrees in Altmittweida. In western Germany, temperatures were even higher, with Neunkirchen-Seelscheid-Strassen in North Rhine-Westphalia reaching 37.7 degrees.

There were strong thunderstorms in the western and southern regions, as well as locally in the central part, with very high rainfall amounts. For example, in Münzenberg, Hesse, 48 liters per square meter fell in a short period of time. In Central Germany, there were only isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the Western Ore Mountains, Vogtland, and locally in Thuringia. Otherwise, it remained mostly sunny.

MDR Weather Studio: Potential for thunderstorms on Thursday

According to the MDR Weather Studio, the situation is expected to change on Thursday: „The energy-rich air will also reach Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia,“ predicts MDR weather expert Michaela Koschak. „It is very difficult to predict exactly where and when something will happen. The potential for severe showers and thunderstorms exists everywhere, as temperatures are expected to reach up to 35 degrees on Thursday, with enough moisture and energy in the air.“
