Food Zürich: A Successful Celebration of Culinary Delights and Bittersweet Farewell

The 9th and final opening event of Food Zürich took place last week at the Jelmolis marketplace in the Sous-Sol. Renowned chefs such as Hansjörg Ladurner from Restaurant Scalottas Terroir, Michelin-starred chef Nenad Mlinarevic, Tarik Lange from Park Hyatt, and meat processor Tanya Giovanoli with her striking short hairstyle showcased their skills to the public. It was the most spectacular opening celebration of the Food Festival, this time under the theme „Chuchitisch.“ Moderator Dominik Widmer stated, „For 9 years, our common bond has been the love for food.“

Mlinarevic presented dishes such as veal loin with smoked trout sauce and tomato vinaigrette, while Mauricio Muñoz Deplazes offered „Tattas“ braised beef roast, homemade Spätzli, and braised carrots. Guest country Austria showcased Riebelmais specialties from Vorarlberg and „exquisite pig dishes“ from Salzburg, pickled or cooked. The displayed Gougères, also known as cheese puffs, left the audience craving for more. Equally impressive were the dessert variations from the luxury hotels in Zurich. Among the beverages, the newly launched „Bündner Minze“ in 2022 caught attention, made from fresh water, sugar, and alcohol, enriched with mint and bergamot flavors.

By the end of February 2025, the Jelmoli Food Market, along with the entire department store, will be closing. The location for next year’s 10th-anniversary opening party remains unknown, leaving everyone wondering if it will be at the Congress House or elsewhere in Zurich.
