AC/DC Receives Double Platinum for POWER UP
AC/DC is a reliable band: the hard rock legends recently received a double platinum award for their latest album POWER UP. During their celebrated concert on June 9th at the Munich Olympic Stadium, AC/DC was honored with a special award from their record label Sony Music. Their album POWER UP (2020) has sold over 400,000 units in Germany, earning it double platinum status.
Angus Young expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, „Germany has always been a great place for us. The fans have supported us from our early years to the present day. Thank you, Germany. We appreciate it and raise a toast to you!“ Juliane Lüthy, Senior Product Manager at Columbia GSA, added, „The success of this album highlights that AC/DC’s music is timeless. Even after over 50 years as a band, they still resonate with rock lovers. We are proud to be part of the AC/DC community and to honor the band’s achievements. A special thanks to the fans who have made AC/DC what they are: a legend!“
During the award presentation, notable figures such as Brian Johnson, Angus Young, and Stevie Young were in attendance. POWER UP had the strongest album start of 2020 within three weeks of its release and topped the Official German Year-End Charts. Additionally, AC/DC set a record this year by being the first artist in 15 years to simultaneously hold the top two spots in the German album charts. In honor of the band’s 50th anniversary, Sony released eight albums and a live album as limited edition gold vinyl. More reissues on golden vinyl are set to be released on June 21st.
