The organizers of the Dresden City Festival „Canaletto“ have announced the first details of the program.
The motto of this year’s Dresden City Festival „Canaletto“ is „City of Living Tradition.“ From August 16 to 18, the state capital will celebrate the annual super event with 1500 artists on ten stages.
Now, the organizers have revealed new details about the celebration: There will even be a travesty revue at the Altmarkt. After a six-year break, the heart of the city center will once again come to life this year: „The Altmarkt will be transformed into a sports and family mile. Professionals from the Dresdner Eislöwen, HC Elbflorenz, or the Dresdner Titans will accompany the sports activities,“ said managing director Frank Schröder (54).
Also at the Altmarkt, visitors can experience the new attraction from the German Air Rescue Service (DRF): a helicopter that invites you to an animated rescue flight with VR glasses. Art lovers will also have the opportunity to enjoy themselves on Saturday and Sunday when 80 vendors on Hauptstraße offer their handmade goods: „We also have a new culinary journey at the Terrassenufer. 40 different vendors will present delicacies from around the world, from small snacks to family meals,“ announced Schröder. The Dresdner „Carte Blanche,“ Europe’s largest travesty theater, will also be performing this year in celebration of its 40th anniversary. In honor of the theater’s anniversary, the ensemble is preparing a revue for the city festival.
The city festival will kick off on Friday, August 16, with Mayor Dirk Hilbert (52, FDP). As every year, the grand finale of the three-day celebration will be a spectacular fireworks display at Königsufer. For more information, visit www.canaletto-fest.de.
In addition to these exciting events, visitors can look forward to performances by Dorota from the McDonald’s commercials and an upcoming ice show at the Messe, adding even more entertainment options to the Dresden events calendar. As the countdown to the Schlössernacht begins, six kilometers of promenades are being prepared for visitors to enjoy the festive atmosphere of the city. Be sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming events in Dresden!
