A new streaming service is set to launch in Germany following its successful debut in the UK. Viaplay has announced that it will be offering its service through Prime Video Channels in Germany, with a monthly subscription fee of 4.99 Euros after a seven-day trial period. While Viaplay is known for live sports in Scandinavia, the German market will initially only have fictional content available.
According to „Digital Fernsehen,“ the content will include series such as „End of Summer,“ „Threesome,“ „Face to Face,“ „Gåsmamman,“ „Black Sands,“ „Thunder in My Heart,“ and „Wisting.“ Additionally, „The Prize of Silence,“ a documentary about sexual abuse at the academy that awards the Nobel Prize in Literature, will be part of the offering, along with the series „Seaside Hotel“ and the „Millennium“ trilogy („The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo“).
Viaplay aims to launch in Germany in 2025 and expand its global presence in other European markets soon after. Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Group EVP, Viaplay Select & Content Distribution, stated, „Germany is an ideal market to demonstrate the benefits of combining multiple distribution channels.“ Gerald Biart, Viaplay Group VP Partnership, Growth & Marketing, added, „Following the success of Viaplay’s launch in the UK as an add-on subscription through Prime Video Channels earlier this year, Viaplay is excited to expand its global reach in Germany and soon in other European markets.“
This move by Viaplay also serves to stabilize its financial situation in its home market. The official launch is not happening yet; instead, Viaplay is testing the opportunities that the German market has to offer. This strategic expansion into new markets is a significant step for Viaplay as it continues to grow its subscriber base and content offerings. By leveraging the Prime Video Channels platform, Viaplay can reach a broader audience and establish a strong presence in the German streaming market.
As streaming services continue to gain popularity worldwide, Viaplay’s entry into Germany represents a new player in the competitive streaming landscape. With a focus on fictional content and plans to potentially introduce live sports in the future, Viaplay aims to cater to a diverse audience in Germany. The addition of exclusive series and documentaries, such as „The Prize of Silence,“ further enhances Viaplay’s content library and sets it apart from other streaming platforms.
Overall, the arrival of Viaplay in Germany signals a shift in the streaming industry and provides consumers with more choices for their entertainment needs. As Viaplay prepares to make its mark in the German market, viewers can look forward to a fresh selection of content and a unique streaming experience.
