Last night, more than 100 people protested against the lecture by Martin Sellner in Neu-Ulm. Spontaneous protests followed at the meeting point of the lecture attendees. This was preceded by a game of cat and mouse. Will he come or not – and where will he come: The lecture was announced by Sellner himself in the Ulm area. The exact location was kept secret for a long time, probably to avoid protests and possible police action.
The lecture itself took place in Neu-Ulm, in the garage next to Penny on Bahnhofsstraße 82. The location was ultimately published by the right-wing individuals (especially the right-wing streamers on site) themselves. „Through an anonymous tip and photos, we can say with certainty that Sellner was on site and instructed the audience to lie and claim that Sellner was never in Neu-Ulm,“ says the initiative „Klare Kante gegen Rechts Ulm.“
It was also confirmed that the lecture was organized by Ulm’s AfD city councilor Nicolas Brickenstein. He stood at the door, welcomed the listeners, and Sellner personally thanked him for the organization. „We would like to point out that on the first day of the new municipal council, we pointed out Brickenstein’s extremely right-wing worldview. Here is clear evidence once again!,“ said the initiative. „It remains a mystery to us why it is now being claimed that Sellner was not in Neu-Ulm and his right-wing lies continue to be spread.“
The unauthorized lecture event was finally reportedly prevented by the police, without the aforementioned right-wing extremist being found. In a statement this morning, Neu-Ulm’s mayor Katrin Albsteiger expressed her satisfaction with the police intervention:
„As a constitutional state, we have shown today that we reject and do not allow racism in any form. We were prepared together with the police in the entire twin city for the possible appearance of Martin Sellner. I thank the forces of the police and city administrations for acting consistently, professionally, and with the right instinct, thus being able to end the illegal event. This has shown: Ulm/Neu-Ulm is an uncomfortable place for such events and will continue to be a spoilsport for the spread of racist ideologies in the future.“
„We are a diverse, cosmopolitan, and tolerant city and will continue to aggressively defend these values against the enemies of democracy.“
