Shane Black’s „Predator – Upgrade“ may have received a lot of ridicule and mockery from critics and audiences, but we still gave this super-entertaining 80s nerd fest 4 out of 5 stars. Starting today, the film is available on Netflix.
With Shane Black at the helm, known for his expertise in fast-paced, tough, cool, and funny buddy-action scripts and directing, as well as being part of the original „Predator“ film in 1987, there was hope for „Predator – Upgrade.“ Despite facing challenges during production with reshoots and restructuring, the film ended up being a box office flop and received negative reviews. However, we found that Shane Black struck a chord with us. We still recommend giving it a watch: „Predator – Upgrade“ is now included in the Netflix subscription.
Additionally, the sci-fi thriller will also be available on Amazon Prime Video on October 10th. And for those who prefer Disney’s streaming platform, the film can be found on Disney+ since the Fox takeover.
In this fourth installment of the „Predator“ series, sniper Quinn McKenna and his team encounter the titular alien threat. After the Predator escapes captivity, it poses a danger to the world. With the help of scientist Casey Brackett, they strive to save humanity from potential destruction.
Despite criticism that the story is simplistic and the title character is merely a functional film villain, Shane Black delivers a consistently entertaining homage to 80s cinema from start to finish. It’s like „Super 8“ for adults, earning a strong 4 out of 5 stars from us and a clear recommendation for those craving a mix of witty humor and dark sci-fi action.
