Amazon recently announced plans to bring back the cult sitcom „Who’s the Boss?“ that originally aired in the 80s. Four years ago, Sony Pictures TV revealed their intentions to create a sequel to the beloved show, with the original cast members Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano reprising their roles as father-daughter duo. Two years later, Amazon joined the project and planned to launch the sitcom on their streaming platform Freevee. However, recent reports suggest that Amazon’s MGM Studios will no longer be moving forward with the revival. It remains to be seen if another network or streaming service will pick up the series.

The original show followed the story of former professional baseball player Tony Micelli, played by Tony Danza, who becomes a housekeeper for a wealthy advertising executive, Angela Bower, portrayed by Judith Light, after his sports career is cut short due to an injury. He moves with his daughter Samantha, played by Alyssa Milano, to Connecticut to start a new life. The household also includes Angela’s son Jonathan and her mother Mona.

The revival planned to pick up the story „30 years later,“ with Sam now a single mother and Tony moving in with her in their old house. While a return from some original cast members was possible, Katherine Helmond, who played Mona, passed away before the revival could come to fruition.

„Who’s the Boss?“ was created by Martin Cohan and Blake Hunter and had a large fan base both in the US and internationally. The show even had a German adaptation called „Ein Job fürs Leben“ that aired on RTL. Despite the popularity of the original show, the German version only lasted for one season in 1993. The show has been in syndication on various networks over the years, including Sat.1 Gold.

The cancellation of the revival by Amazon’s MGM Studios is disappointing news for fans who were looking forward to seeing the iconic characters back on screen. However, there is still hope that another network or streaming service will see the potential in bringing back „Who’s the Boss?“ for a new generation of viewers to enjoy.
