The rehearsals for the Karl May Spiele in Bad Segeberg are in full swing, with some details being fine-tuned until the premiere on June 29. The atmosphere within the ensemble, led by „Winnetou“ actor Alexander Klaws, remains positive despite the long working hours at the Kalkberg arena.
With just two weeks left until the premiere of „Winnetou II – Ribanna and Old Firehand,“ there are still some aspects that need polishing. Questions arise about who rides where, everyone’s mastery of the text, and the precise execution of the fight scenes. Not everything is falling into place as planned yet, but both actors and the director agree that rehearsals are the time to iron out any issues to avoid mistakes during the premiere.
The production involves up to 70 performers, including 25 horses, 25 extras, ten stunt performers, and twelve actors. During the initial scene involving this large cast, Klaws expressed frustration when things didn’t go as expected, but he acknowledged the value of pushing boundaries during rehearsals to test the ensemble’s cohesion.
Director Nicolas König emphasized the importance of allowing the show to go on even if something goes awry on stage, as halting the performance for minor hiccups disrupts the flow of the production. The cast is currently rehearsing without costumes, as they are still being finalized for the show.
One key scene from „Winnetou II – Ribanna and Old Firehand“ is being rehearsed multiple times to ensure that every element aligns seamlessly. Despite the long rehearsal days lasting over ten hours, the cast and crew are dedicated to perfecting each moment of the performance, from the choreography of the action sequences to the introduction of special effects like pyrotechnics and live animals.
As the premiere date approaches, Sila Sahin, Alexander Klaws, and Jan Hartmann, who play Ribanna, Winnetou, and Old Firehand respectively, are gearing up to showcase their talents on stage. With elements like microphones, pyrotechnics, and even a live eagle set to enhance the production, the anticipation for the opening night continues to build among the cast and audience alike.
In just two weeks, on June 29, the Arena am Kalberg will come alive with the premiere of the Karl May Spiele 2024, promising a spectacle that combines thrilling performances with the spirit of adventure. Stay tuned for an unforgettable evening filled with action, drama, and perhaps even a romantic first kiss between the lead characters.
