Nicolas Schmit: „There are no good and bad far-right extremists“
In a recent statement, Nicolas Schmit, the lead candidate for the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament elections, emphasized the importance of not categorizing far-right extremists as either good or bad. He stated that Europe’s Social Democrats are ruling out the possibility of supporting Ursula von der Leyen as Commission President if she forms an alliance with Italy’s Meloni party. According to Schmit, climate policy must also address social issues.
„The issue of climate cannot be discussed in isolation from social issues and economic circumstances,“ Schmit said. He highlighted the need for policies that „take people along“ and ensure that the transition to a greener economy is fair for all.
In a recent interview with STANDARD, Schmit was asked the surprise question posed to all lead candidates: Do you own a private car?
