An exciting event is coming to Konstanz and Kreuzlingen – the biggest flea market in the area! With approximately 1000 stalls spread over nine kilometers, this cross-border flea market is a dream come true for bargain hunters. Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, you can browse and haggle at the 24-hour flea market at any time of day. If shopping isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the musical and culinary offerings available.

When does the flea market start in 2024? This year, the flea market will take place on Saturday, June 15th, and Sunday, June 16th. Sales will begin on Saturday at 4 pm in Kreuzlingen and two hours later in Konstanz. The stalls at the Rheinufer, Winterersteig, and Webersteig will open at 6 pm, followed by the stalls in the city center around the Lutherkirche square, Kreuzlinger Straße, Rheinsteig, Obere, and Untere Laube at 7 pm. The event is expected to attract up to 80,000 visitors over the 24 hours, and all sales will conclude on Sunday at 6 pm.

What does the flea market offer? In addition to treasures from the sellers‘ basements and closets, there will be special markets this year, such as the Creative and Artisan Market at the Lutherkirche. Enthusiasts will also find a model train and model car market at the Aula of the Stephansschule, a comic and vinyl record market in the Mensa corridor of the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Gymnasium, and a market at the Schottenplatz. These special markets will start selling their goods at 6 pm on Saturday, except for the Creative and Artisan Market, which will begin an hour later at 7 pm.

What’s new this year? New this year are the activities of the Mahagoni Collective at the Schottenplatz. Here, newly purchased or long-worn clothing can be screen printed with individual patterns in the silk-screen workshop. Local artists will also enhance the flea market experience with music. After dark, performances will take place in the schoolyard of the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Gymnasium, where images will be projected and brought to life with projectors.

What cultural and culinary offerings are available? There will be music islands throughout the flea market area, where street musicians will create the perfect atmosphere for bargaining and browsing. Various vendors will offer food and drinks for the treasure hunters, including sweet and savory classics, as well as vegan and vegetarian options. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own cups due to the lack of disposable containers, promoting sustainability and reducing waste production.

How to get to the flea market? It is recommended to visit the flea market by bike or public transportation. Free bicycle parking will be available at Herosé Park near the bike bridge. For those driving, parking is available at Döbele or the Park-and-Ride parking lot at Bodenseeforum. Additional parking can be found at Bücklestraße on weekends, where visitors can then take the Seehas or Stadtbus (Fürstenberg). Another parking option is the Seepark parking garage in Stromeyersdorf, where visitors can park on Saturdays and use the bus with a pre-purchased parking ticket.

Are there changes to the bus schedule? During the flea market, regular bus services will end and begin at Sternenplatz, with shuttle buses departing every half hour to neighborhoods not serviced by normal bus lines. Specific routes and departure times can be found on the city’s website.

Will there be road closures? Due to the extensive flea market, some streets in the city center will be closed to traffic. Parking in flea market areas will be prohibited from Saturday morning, with signs alerting drivers to the restrictions. Remember to bring reusable bags or backpacks for your purchases, and kids can participate in the Children’s Flea Market at the Schulhof der Stephansschule. Safety measures are in place, including special bracelets for lost children.
