Today’s schedule for the European Championship has been adjusted, with no 3 p.m. game as in the past three days. Instead, the day will kick off at 6 p.m. No football on the channels! The ARD will be showing „Unter weißen Segeln,“ a cruise series, at 3 p.m. While on ZDF, the cult show „Bares für Rares“ with Horst Lichter will be airing. RTL, on the other hand, will be showing an episode of „Barbara Salesch – Das Strafgericht.“
The reason for the change in schedule is due to the opening match in Group F between Turkey and Georgia, which will start at 6 p.m. (RTL, Magenta, and on BILD-Live-Ticker). Following that, at 9 p.m., ARD will take over to show the second match in Group F between Portugal and the Czech Republic (also available on BILD-Liveticker).
With these two matches, the first matchday of the Euro group stage will come to a close, with all national teams having played once. The tournament will begin with six groups of four teams each. This means there will be twelve matches per matchday during the group stage.
Ideally, with three games per day, the matches could be evenly spread across four days. However, as Germany kicked off the tournament as the host on Friday evening against Scotland (5-1), it was the only match of the day. This resulted in only eleven matches left to be scheduled, making it challenging to evenly distribute them. As a result, there were three matches each on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The remaining matches will take place on Tuesday.
From Wednesday to Saturday, three matches per day will resume at the usual times (3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9 p.m.). However, on the final matchday of the group stage, two matches per group will be played simultaneously to maintain maximum excitement and avoid any unfair advantages, similar to the final matchday of a Bundesliga season.
On Sunday, June 23, and Monday, June 24, there will also be only two matches each. In contrast, on Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26, there will be four matches per day. Fans can refer to the complete Euro schedule for more details on the upcoming matches and timings.
The adjustment in the schedule aims to ensure a fair and exciting competition throughout the group stage, with teams vying for a spot in the knockout rounds. Stay tuned for more thrilling matches as the Euro 2024 unfolds.
