The Bonifatiuswerk of the Catholic Church supported Christians in Germany, Northern Europe, and the Baltics with 9.6 million euros in 2023. According to the annual report presented in Dresden on Tuesday, the organization funded 1123 projects, 229 more than the previous year.

Despite the challenging changes and crises of this time, making long-term planning difficult for the Catholic relief organization, General Secretary Monsignor Georg Austen expressed gratitude and satisfaction with the past fiscal year. He highlighted that in the numerous pastoral projects, social, and charitable initiatives, „lived faith is tangible and experiential.“

The report indicated that 4.4 million euros in funding went to Germany, 4.7 million euros to Northern Europe, and nearly 500,000 euros to Estonia and Latvia. Approximately 1.7 million euros were allocated to children and youth welfare, over 881,000 euros to faith support projects. Additionally, 73 construction projects received a total of 2.7 million euros in support, and missionary personnel positions were funded with 417,200 euros.

In the fiscal year 2023, the organization’s total funds amounted to 13.2 million euros, approximately 3.1 million euros lower than the previous year. Donations decreased by 24 percent, while income from collections increased by 11 percent to 4.1 million euros. This highlights the importance of continued support and donations to sustain the valuable work carried out by the Bonifatiuswerk.
