Beatsteaks Discuss Longevity and Friendship in Ringbahn Podcast

In a recent episode of the Ringbahn podcast „Eine Runde Berlin,“ members of the German rock band Beatsteaks, Peter Baumann and Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß, reflected on their nearly 30-year journey together as a band. Despite the ups and downs that come with any long-term relationship, the Beatsteaks have managed to stay united and continue to find joy in what they do.

Teutoburg-Weiß shared, „In our rehearsal room, the same thing has been happening for 30 years. It’s funny, it’s ridiculous. We talk nonsense, we laugh, we argue about things that the world doesn’t care about.“ Baumann added, „It’s still the same place. It’s our space. We can make jokes that no one else should hear. Because we know each other so well. I don’t have to explain anything to anyone. They all know what I meant. And that’s beautiful, especially in a world where one is often misunderstood.“

The band’s journey began in 1995 with their first concert at a high school party. Over the years, like any group of friends, they have faced challenges. Teutoburg-Weiß shared, „Everyone has stormed out of the rehearsal room at some point and said, ‚That idiot.'“ Despite these moments, the five friends, who like to compare themselves to „Union Berlin“ or „Monty Python,“ have maintained their camaraderie and friendship for three decades.

In addition to discussing their music career, Baumann and Teutoburg-Weiß also delved into their experiences growing up in East Germany, reflecting on the challenges and frustrations of that time. They also touched on the issue of division in Germany and the importance of human connection in an increasingly digital world.

As the Beatsteaks continue to perform in alternative youth centers in Eastern Germany, their goal remains the same – to bring people together, engage in meaningful conversations, and create lasting memories. Baumann summed it up by saying, „It also has its benefits to go through tough times together. The important thing is that we have each other.“

Through their music and their bond, the Beatsteaks continue to inspire both old and new fans, showing that friendship, resilience, and shared experiences can withstand the test of time.
