The EOS platform has been subjected to a white block to a detailed Benchmark. Neither the alleged 5,000 to 1,000,000 transactions per second could be achieved, nor is it in the case of EOS to a „real“ Blockchain, so the analysts.
EOS is taken to be the time to create a decentralized operating system. As the Ethereum-a Blockchain EOS allows the execution of Smart Contracts and promises to a higher scalability than Ethereum and Bitcoin. The claim was, to use the Blockchain technology. Again and again, criticism of the consensus mechanism of the platform, however, was loud. The Delegated Proof of Stake Consensus (DPoS), in which the block position of the object of the 21 selected block producers, in contrast to the Ideal of a fully decentralised Governance of a Blockchain.
50 TPS under ideal conditions,
EOS is a distributed database, the way some of the decisive characteristics of a Blockchain. This was the result of a detailed analysis of the white block, a Blockchain-Benchmarking company. On the first of November published a white block, the results of your Benchmark. This also includes performance and the Token-Economy of the white block, were investigated in addition to the architecture of the EOS-a platform.
white block notes that the platform was originally created, in fact, as the Blockchain. However, it was not possible for the implementation to meet these requirements. This was due in particular to the fact that the EOS – unlike Bitcoin or Ethereum – cryptographic verification only is implemented, instead of a mandatory core component of the platform architecture:
„accounts such as user profiles, and not as a simple Private and Public Key Pair, a cryptographic validation. Based on this evaluation, the EOS network is not communicating necessarily a block-chain based crypto-currency network, but a homogeneous distributed database network that allows different user accounts, through the distributed database network, and to interact.“
in terms of Performance, the EOS is still lagging behind its claim. After the bumpy Mainnet launch of the EOS Numbers from 5,000 to a Million of potential transactions per second (TPS), the round made, could not be observed in these values in practice. White block test runs identified only 250 transactions per second, and under ideal conditions, with 0ms latency and data loss (packet loss) of zero percent. Under more realistic conditions (50 ms latency, 0.01% of data loss) were the TPS to 50.
block producers to centralize EOS
In the center of the platform – and the critique of this – the 21 selected block producers (block a producer). The Consensus by Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), as implemented in the EOS, has, according to the white block is no Byzantine fault tolerance (BFT). The choice of the block producers based also on social consensus and not on a BFT consensus that distinguishes a „real“ Blockchain. In addition, there is no – algorithmic mechanisms out there that don’t apply when one of the block producers stick to the rules. The block manufacturers also provide a Central point of attack for hackers, and is just avoiding a real Blockchain, however:
„The EOS block producers are highly centralized and the users can only access the network by using as the middle men. Block manufacturers are a Single Point of Failure for the entire System.“
another point of criticism is the lack of insight in the actual computational capacity of the block producers:
„Since the configuration and processing of the 21 block producers are protected from the Public, it is not possible to identify the extent of the available in the network calculation […]“
Therefore it was not verifiable whether the Token be an accurate representation of the available computing power of the network.
white block comes to the conclusion that there are to do in case of EOS a lot. At least until the platform as a reliable Base-Layer Protocol can claim. Until then, the platform in the best case could come as Side Chain networks, with greater security, into account. However, even for this, the platform would have to undergo profound modifications.
